I have been getting my Birchbox since about September last year after quitting Glossybox.
No shade towards Glossybox, but I hated getting perfume samples all of the time and I rarely used the stuff that came in the box, so I switched. Get your box here!
The thing question people always ask about these subscription boxes is "are they worth it?"
For me Birchbox is a big YES!
There is rarely an item that i don't use [ or give to my mum/sister] and even if i get an item that I already have its great to have a handy travel size. [Especially now I have a new job as an Air Hostsess, more on that to come]
The box is £10 a month plus £2.95 shipping. I do begrudge paying shipping in general but oh well.
This months box!
I have to say I do love the pink box its delivered in. I know exactly what it is and get excited. Now recently they have changed couriers from Yodel to Hermes which I'm not too happy with but oh well.
The actual box is always super cute and I have a nice pile of them which I use as storage.
Maybe now is the time to apologise for my unicorn bed sheet but #sorrynotsorry because I love them!
Now back on track...
Each month they do give you a little leaflet of whats in your box, but I do ignore that straight away because I prefer looking for myself. *shrugs* I just like it that way.
The items always come in super cute drawstring bags and you may not be able to make out in this bad lighting this bag says "Best Day Ever" on it. I find these super handy because I can just chuck things like spare tights, hair pins etc in them and stash it in my handbag when I'm out and about so I don't have to jam my makeup bag full.
Now down to the actual contents. This month you got to choose which color "unicorn tears" sponge you got in your bag, and I chose purple.
Now lets go into each product 1 by 1
Vita Coco Extra Virgin 100% Raw Coconut oil
Now this is just a sachet, and a full size tub would cost you £9.99. Now I swear by coconut oil! I use it on the ends of my hair as a treatment before washing, I use it to moisturise my legs after shaving and sometimes just to moisturise in general. [great for when my knees and elbows get a bit ashy] I also use it every now and then to take my makeup off when my skin needs a bit of loving. Now when it comes to this sample, Am I going to use it? Yes! It going to go into one of the draw string bags and kept in my handbag for my new job. [It's great when all of these things fit together ^.^] Am I going to buy the full product? No. Whereas its a great product, I use the Superdrug own brand that you can find HERE! which is only a couple of quid off, but that's an extra couple of quid to go towards something else. I will point out with the Vita Coco one you can cook with, whereas the Superdrug on you can't, but I'm not cooking with it.
I will also point out it is worth looking out for this product at boots because they do often put it on offer from anywhere from £6-£8 depending on when you look.
theBalm Cosmetics Stainiac in Beauty Queen
I have never been attracted to lip and cheek stains, I have always been very heavy handed when it comes to blush and I love a nice bold lip, but its always nice to try something new. This wouldn't be the first theBalm sample I've had, and after using it on my cheeks for a day, I'm not mad at it. It leaves a nice color on my cheeks, not at dark as I would usually go for, but still nice. It's great for a natural look, however I did use my hands to blend and they are now nice and stained too.
It retails for £10 so with this product I'm pretty much breaking even without the postage added on top. Am I going to use this product? Yes. Its a nice color for me and it lasted the day without budging. Am I going to buy it again? Probably not. I'm going to use it because its nice but there are other actual blushes that I prefer and would rather buy over this.
Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet
I use rich face creams because I do suffer from eczema on certain parts of my face, and for the most of the time its kept completely under control *touches wood* So I always am a bit ehhhh about new skincare, but I gave it ago for you guys!
So I'm not a fan of the texture to be honest. It's well, a sorbet as supposed to a liquid or mousse. Its hard to describe. It didn't sink into my skin, it took some working into it which i didn't like at all. So I've had it on since 8am ish and its now coming up to 6pm now. My skin is feeling thirsty! It's feeling very tight and uncomfortable. So this is a major downer for me.
Now a full size product costs £23- I think I'll stick to my £10 Olay moisturiser for now thank you very much.
Will I use this product? No, I'll see if my mum will want to try it [ my sisters started getting a box herself and my mum will probably say no after reading this review.
PK Prep Polishing Balm
This has come to me at the perfect time, I don't want any fly aways with my trolley dolly bun now do I? An anti-frizz product that can be smoothed through damp hair before styling, or applied to dry hair to catch that pesky frizz that just wont be tamed. A full size product costing £18.50
It has a slight fragrance to it that I can only describe is bubble bath smell, sorry that's the only way I can describe it. Its not sticky which is always a plus, but it does the job. It leaves the hair looking sleek, but not wet. [Ross from friends springs to mind, Did you swim here?] That is not a look I will ever be going for.
Am I going to use this? Yes! Will I be buying this? No. I'm not the biggest buyer of hair products so unless it knocks my socks off its going to be a no.
Rituals Tao Wai Wang mild Exfoliating Body Scrub.
Now I love me a good scrub. I don't know why, but I love just going for it, so when it says mild I am a bit let down, because most of the time when it says mild it doesn't even feel like there is any exfoliating going on. But this was a pleasant surprise. Tiny bits of bamboo [yay no plastic beads, always a plus] and white lotus leaves it with a nice scent. Its a nice product which leaves the skin feeling soft, and its great if your someone who doesn't want to remove all the layers of your skin when having a scrub down.
A full sized tub costs £19.50, which when you look at the size isn't too bad.
Will I use this? Yes. Will I buy a full size? No, I'll stick to my soap and glory scrub.
Spectrum Collections Unicorn Tears Wonder Sponge.
Now I left this till last because to be honest I'm not sure how I feel about it. Yes I am confused about my feelings towards a sponge. It happens people.
My RT Beauty sponge was on its lasts legs so this has come at the perfect time.
Its a nice soft sponge and is a decent size. I would put a photo of it next to my RT one, but it's too gross as this stage so I'm not going to embarrass myself xD.
It has an icky smell you when you first take it out of the packaging, but after a wash this soon goes away. Mine did take a bit longer than expected to wash but oh well.
Now onto the bit that makes me unsure. I always apply my foundation in the same way, smear it in dots on my face and then use my sponge to work it into the skin and blend. Now this felt lovely on my skin and blended so easily! However I think it soaks up more foundation then any of the sponges I've used. It takes one "pump" of my foundation to cover my whole face, and if i want a thicker coverage its about one and a half. For this sponge I used 3 "pumps". Now for me that is a lot. I didn't do this straight away, i spent a while trying to work it around my face. In the end I squeezed the sponge and a bit of product came back out which I used my fingers to reapply. But then I thought, no, I'm doing a full face with the sponge, commit! So I did. So yeah a lot of wasted product in terms of foundation. This was a liquid foundation so I've yet to try it with anything thicker. Now when it comes to my concealer, I used an Urban Decay concealer stick which worked beautifully with the sponge so I think that's the way to go.
I'm loving the little reusable packet it comes it, makes it perfect to store when I'm away with work.
This retails for for £4.99.
Am I going to use this? Yes, if i can find a foundation that doesn't get wasted as much I will, and definitely with my concealer. Am I going to buy this? Yes, with the same stipulations as above.
[ I will apologise as I lost the close up photo of it in the packet, but The photo at the top shows it as well]
So all in all I am very happy with this box!
Now if you would like one for yourself heres my invite a friend link. Yes this does give me points to spend in the store but it will also give you £5 worth of points to spend as well!
